The time is fulfilled
The Spirit immediately drove Jesus out into the desert, and he remained there for forty days, tempted by Satan. He was among wild beasts, and the angels ministered to him. After John had been arrested, Jesus came to Galilee proclaiming the good news of God: “This is the time of fulfillment. The kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the good news.”

Why is Jesus moved by the Spirit to battle with the devil? So that none of us will doubt that Jesus is the victor over evil and that, united to him, we share in his victory.

With Jesus, the kingdom of heaven has arrived and drawn near to us: God has come to seek us out and offer us his friendship.

Because of his search and self-offering for us, we are able to undergo conversion and accept the Father’s invitation to welcome his unconditional love.

God is close to us
Lord, you have drawn near to me.
May I see you alongside me;
may I hear your voice close to me;
may I feel your breath
expanding my heart.
Lord, help me
to rejoice in your presence
and rest secure in it.
Amen.
