Go away, Satan! For it is written:
“The Lord your God
you shall worship;
him alone shall you serve

The Lenten journey begins in the desert:
A defining place of faith that runs
through all of Scripture as a common thread.
Jesus, the beloved Son, could not avoid
this anthropological and theological
experience: in silence, in hunger,
in solitude, he confronts Satan,
but also himself, the part of himself
that might want to be satisfied immediately,
to dominate. And yet, precisely there,
he shows all humanity the path to victory,
which is obedience, trust in the Father.

This is freedom: not doing whatever
one wants, but wanting what is right,
good, and true. In Jesus, each of us
can find the strength not to fall
into delusions of omnipotence
or into the traps of selfishness.
