The Korean Episcopal Conference’s Council for Culture was set up in 1995 “to favor the development and inculturation of religious art in our time so as to make humanity always more receptive to the Gospel and so that those who practice these arts will feel recognized by the Church as persons who carry out a true, good and beautiful service.”
This is the purpose behind the Council’s annual Catholic Art Award, which this year was bestowed on Sr. Magdalena Kim, fsp, for her painting, St. Peter and St. Paul. The award ceremony was held on 11 February 2015 in the MungDong Cathedral, Seoul, following a solemn Eucharistic Celebration. Sr. Magdalena, who has been painting since 1987, has so far had seven exhibitions of her works, which center on subjects such as faith, daily life and nature.

One of the directors of the Catholic Art Award commission remarked that her paintings witness to a faith that is lived. The work, St. Peter and St. Paul, which depicts the warm embrace of the two pillars of the Church, is a symbolic representation of the Catholic Faith.
