Mt 3:13-17
The New Time of Jesus Beyond John the Baptist
Jesus came
from Galilee
to John at the Jordan,
to be baptized by him
The Baptist is a liminal figure
between the Old and New Testaments,
a prophet of movement and transition,
of the evolution of a story that could not be said to be closed,
but which reopens to a new time, that of Jesus of Nazareth.
We are at the moment when the voice of the Father
is heard from heaven to show us the ever-new horizon
of our journey,
a horizon that is not an abstraction,
but has the concreteness of a face and a life.
The signs Jesus performs reveal the distinctive features
that mark who he is—
his choices, his mission,
and the very reason he came:
to proclaim the Kingdom and to save us.
And these invite us
to be generators of life to those around us,
right there, where history continues to reveal
the Father to us.
