The FSP International Multimedia Center, Rome, recently launched a new book by Fabio Bolzetta entitled Voci del terremoto (Voices from the Earthquake). This latest FSP publication recounts stories of rebirth from the ruins caused by the massive quake that struck central Italy on 24 August 2016. Present for the book launch were Bishop Domenico Pompili of Rieti, Archbishop Renato Boccardo of Spoleto-Norcia, Professor Nicola Alemanno, the mayor of Norcia, and Fabio Bolzetta, the book’s author. The presentation was moderated by Vania de Luca, president of the Italian Catholic Press Union.

Bolzetta’s book is a moving account of the places, stories, pictures and emotions involved in the traumatic event: the personal sufferings of those who lost loved ones, homes and livelihood as a result of the devastation, and who were forced to flee for their lives. Voices from the Earthquake are the voices the author encountered in his travels among the ruins, starting from the earthquake’s epicenter in Amatrice to the “red zones” of Norcia and Accumoli, and the emergency “tent towns” set up in Porto Recanati and Porto Sant’Elipidio (seaside tourist spots that offered sanctuary to the victims).

Bolzetta, a journalist, says that the purpose of his book is to help Italians remember this tragedy so as to keep solidarity and hope alive in society. He also says that any income from his author’s rights to the book will be donated to the Caritas project: Central Italy Earthquake.
