When Pope Francis visited Kenya in November 2015, the UCHUMI supermarket chain in Nairobi invited the Daughters of St. Paul to disseminate the Gospel, the books of the Pope and other publications in three of their stores. Viewing this as a golden opportunity to meet people who do not know Jesus Christ, the FSPs accepted this invitation and for three whole weeks, they, their novices and collaborators were in the stores from 10:00 every morning until 6:00 every evening, alternating evangelization teams three times a day so as to carry out this mission to the full.
In every store, they displayed a huge poster featuring a picture of the Pope, accompanied by the notice: All proceeds of the sales and any donations received will be given to the Pope to be used for his works of charity. Our sisters say that the initiative was a memorable way of encouraging the people to open their hearts to those in need in the certitude that “those who help others will not impoverish themselves.”
