The Internet and Faith

The Daughters of St. Paul of Johannesburg recently held a cultural meeting aimed at proposing a critical reflection on the use of the Internet, taking as a starting point the words of Pope Francis in his Message for World Communications Day 2019: “Ever since the Internet first became available,” says the Pope, “the Church has always sought to promote its use in the service of the encounter between persons, and of solidarity among all.”

Basing himself on this statement, guest speaker Jan Jans, professor of Ethics and Digital Sciences at Tilburg University, Belgium, spoke about the use of the Internet in the Catholic Church today and its possibilities as a means of evangelization. The questions and comments on the part of the participants were very interesting and in the end everyone wanted to know the same thing: How would Jesus have used the Internet? And how are we invited and challenged to follow in his footsteps?
