Feast of the Birth of the Virgin Mary

Dearest sisters throughout the world,

With joy and deep emotion we want to inform you that today our 10th General Chapter elected as Superior General:

  1. sr. Anna Maria Parenzan

Sr. Anna Maria was born in Trieste, Italy, on 26 January 1946. She made her first profession in Alba on 29 June 1972 and her perpetual profession in Rome on 1 November 1978. After obtaining a teacher’s degree, she received a Bachelor’s Degree in Theology from the Interregional Faculty of Theology in Milan. She speaks Italian and French and is also familiar with English and Spanish.

After working in the book center and in the editorial department of our FSP publishing house in Milan, Sr. Anna Maria was assigned to our House of Prayer in Cicogna (Arezzo), Italy where she carried out the service of spiritual animator. Following this, she worked for six years in the International Secretariat for Formation (SIF) in Rome. From 1989 to 2001, she served as Secretary General of our Institute, followed by two terms of office as General Councilor in charge of spirituality (2001-2013). During her second term, she also served as the Institute’s Vicar General.

Immediately after her election, Sr. Anna Maria, deeply moved, expressed her trust in God to lead the Congregation and her conviction that only in union with her Council and all the members of the Institute will it be possible to move ahead according to the plan of God.

Before the swearing-in ceremony, she asked the Chapter Assembly to sing the Pauline Family’s hymn of faith: Scio cui credidi (I Know the One in Whom I Believe). The sisters then took turns hugging the new Superior General, assuring her of their prayers and collaboration, grateful for her willingness to accept this service in the Congregation. Immediately after this, Sr. Anna Maria and Sr. Maria Antonieta embraced each other warmly.

We are sure that all our sisters join us in accompanying Sr. Anna Maria with our prayers.

Sr. Chiara Colombo and Sr. Vanda Salvador
