The theme of the 49th World Communications Day, Communicating the Family: A Privileged Place of Encounter with the Gift of Love, served as the context for the encounter held on 6 May in the Basilica of Santa Maria in Montesanto, located in the heart of Rome.
The event was organized by the Diocesan Social Communications Office, the FSP organization for Communications and Culture and the Pontifical Lateran University, with the collaboration of the Family Forum of Italy’s Lazio region.
Fr. Walter Insero, who is in charge of the diocesan Communications Office, introduced guest speakers Archbishop Vincenzo Paglia, president of the Pontifical Council for Families, and spouses Mauro and Chiara Magatti, who are both sociologists at Sacred Hearts University, Milan. Massimiliano Padula, a professor at St. John Lateran University, moderated the event.
In keeping with tradition, the encounter featured the presentation of the FSP Communications and Culture Award. FSP Communications and Culture, a non-profit organization, is celebrating its 10th birthday this year, which also happens to be the Centenary Year of foundation of the Daughters of St. Paul.
To mark this special occasion, the Institute’s Superior General, Sr. Anna Maria Parenzan, was on hand to present the award this year to the Petrillo family (Enrico, Chiara and Francesco), who, she said, “transformed their family into a place of communication and blessing through their witness to the beauty and wealth of the love of God, who gives himself to us so that we might, in our turn, give him to others.”
