Mary and Joseph fulfill the Father’s desire:
to give birth to the new Man
Mt 1:18-24
All this took place to fulfill
what the Lord had spoken.
Joseph should have divorced Mary,
annulled the marriage,
acted according to the Law,
according to the customs of his people,
if he had been “just” by legal standards.
But he did not,
Joseph’s justice has a different depth,
another dimension.
He only needs to listen to himself
and to that angelic voice, bearing divine newness,
so that “It has always been done this way”
is shattered once and for all.
Joseph recognizes
that the Father’s desire for his life,
surpasses the plans and expectations
he had built for himself and goes beyond
what he had envisioned for himself and Mary.
From that moment, her story takes a different direction,
the one desired by the Father:
to bring forth the new Man, Jesus.
