Italy: Celebrating May with Books

So as to underscore the importance of reading as a key to personal, cultural and civic growth, the Italian Ministry for Cultural Goods and Activities in collaboration with the Italian Publishers’ Association, under the patronage of the President of the Republic and the Italian National UNESCO Commission, is celebrating its third annual May Book Campaign.

This year’s edition confirms some of the fundamental points that ensured the success of the first two Campaigns: the effort to take books beyond their customary contexts (via schools, reading circles, parks, cultural associations, hospitals, post offices, trains…), with the goal of also involving those who have not yet discovered the pleasure of reading, giving particular attention to fundamental sectors for the cultural, social and generational relaunching of the country, like the Internet, schools and young people.
