In the traditional Lenten gathering with the parish priests of the Diocese of Rome, Benedict XVI gave each priest the text “Chosen by God for Humanity,” published by the Paulines with a presentation by the Cardinal Vicar Agostino Vallini.

The subject matter, the Cardinal said, is that of a “rule of life,” the fruit of the Year of Priests. A spiritual itinerary, an ideal guide offered to all the Roman priests “that they may grow in the joy of their shared vocation and in the unity of the priesthood.”

In the course of the meeting, the Pope offered the reminder: “meekness, generosity and humility: these are the virtues that a priest of today must never forget,” emphasizing in particular that “lack of humility destroys the unity of the Church.”
