During their plenary assembly in Manila from 25-27 January 2014, the bishops of the Philippines participated in a seminar-workshop on media management and how to use the social media.

Several experts presented the group with the new world scenario concerning communications, principally the Internet and all the possibilities it offers with regard to communications and pastoral work. Special attention was focused on the social media and new media.

The seminar was conducted by Sean Lovett, director of the English sector of Vatican Radio, and Fr. Jerry Martinson, SJ. Members of the Society of St. Paul, the Daughters of St. Paul and the Pious Disciples helped to facilitate the workshops. Archbishop Socrates Vellegas, newly-elected president of the Filipino Bishops Conference, said in his concluding speech: “Nothing can replace personal contact but it is necessary to understand that the mission of the Church is also accomplished through these new instruments.”
