Prophecy is the ever new horizon of Christian life
Mt 3:1-12
Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!
How many cries we hear daily!
We are surrounded by cries
that do not answer our deepest questions.
Each moment of waiting
needs someone to point toward
the possibility of the newness that is coming;
each moment of waiting
needs men and women who know how
to read the steps we must take today;
each moment of waiting
needs a prophetic voice,
that restores hope.
A possibility pointing us in a direction,
a signpost in each person’s journey.
The Baptist’s prophecy has the flavor of sobriety, the explosive force of newness, the essential clarity of water that baptizes, that brings us back to life from death, the hope of a Kingdom that is near, close, beside you.
