Peace viewed from within contemporary emergencies but especially through mercy, the sole way to achieve justice: this was the golden thread running through the XII annual Biblical Festival, which this year revolved around the theme: Justice and Peace Shall Kiss. Promoted by the Society of St. Paul and the Diocese of Vicenza, the event took place from 19-27 May 2016 in Verona, Padua, Rovigo and Trent, with a program that included meetings, debates, exhibits and film screenings.
The organizers of the Festival channeled all their energy and creativity into favoring a meeting of the Scriptures with the life of the people. The theme helped participants focus their attention on the path to peace proposed by the Word of God–a path that concerns not only international relations but also our daily relationships. In this way, the Festival sought to offer everyone a message of great relevance today, encouraging people to assume their responsibilities with regard to justice and peace so that in the future the world might see a decrease in violence and evil and an increase in journeys marked by the elimination of walls and the building of bridges.
