World Catholic Population Increasing

According to the 2015 Annuario Pontificio (Pontifical Yearbook), the Catholic population worldwide has undergone a 12% increase from 2005-2013, moving from 1 billion, 115 million baptized to 1 billion, 254 million, resulting in an increase of 139 million members. Since during the same time period the world population has increased from 6 billion, 463 million to 7 billion, 094 million, the number of Catholics on the planetary level has increased from 17.3% to 17.7%.
The breakdown by continent is as follows:
     – Europe: stationary
     – Africa: an increase of Catholics by 34%
     – The Americas: an increase of 10.5%
     – Asia: an increase of 17.4%
