The Paulines Institute of Communications in Asia (PICA), in collaboration with the Consuelo Foundation, whose mission is to promote the well-being of children, women and families at risk, organized its first webinar entitled National Forum on Media and Information Literacy for Education Leaders, with the aim of empowering educators to make society a responsible user, consumer and producer of media. Among the participants in the MIL Forum were educators, priests and religious from various parts of the country.

Many topics were addressed including Media and Information Literacy in the Philippines: Trends, Opportunities and Global Standards by Prof. Ramon Tuazon, and Media Formation and Spirituality by Fr. Norman Peña, ssp. On the last day of the webinar, discussions centered on the topics: Social Media, Privacy and Cyber Laws; Safeguarding Our Children in Today’s Digital World, and Media Consumption in the Eyes of a Gen-Z’er.

Takeaways from the Forum for every Daughters of St. Paul:

– That our digital footprints might consistently witness to our consecrated life.
– That through our apostolic initiatives and the use of different media platforms, we may be instruments in effectively forming the younger generations to discover their vocation by means of our accompaniment of them in the discernment process.
– That media literacy is essential for us since, as FSPs, we are called by vocation to participate in and contribute to the important and timely mission of digital evangelization.
