Holy Week in Maputo centered on diffusion of the Word of God. The Daughters of St. Paul participated with great intensity in the preparation for baptism of numerous catechumens in their diocese and surrounding ones. The Word of God was the most popular gift chosen for the newly baptized, with many people standing in line outside our Maputo book center, patiently waiting their turn to enter the crowded store to make their selections.
The local TV station filmed the event and interviewed Sr. Ines Pissinin concerning the meaning of this act. The African Bible, published by the FSPs in Portuguese, gave our sisters the chance to offer their Mozambican brethren the sacred text in their own language in the hope that it will foster their growth and also spread peace in these difficult times, filled with uncertainty for many people.
