The Nairobi community of the Daughters of St. Paul recently held an animation on social media for secondary school students. Four schools participated in the event, which was entitled, Social Media and You. The purpose of the encounter was to form good citizens for tomorrow by cultivating a healthy mind-set toward the media and helping students learn how to use these instruments responsibly, especially in view of the country’s upcoming elections in August.

The main speaker of the day was Fr. Charles Kinyua, director of Radio Waumini. The FSP team coordinating the event worked hand in hand with lay people from an organization known as Education Professionals of Kenya (E.P.K.), who are specialists in the field of education. This collaboration proved to be very effective and fruitful in illustrating the function of social media in society and in the lives of individuals.

The workshop concluded with the participants helping to draw up the principles that should guide everyone in using social media critically and responsibly.
