“Woe to the devil if he tries to steal a soul from me!” exclaimed José Gabriel Brochero, an Argentine parish priest known to everyone as el Cura Crochero, “the Gaucho priest,” who was canonized on 16 October along with several other Blesseds.

When Sr. Francesca Pratillo, in the name of all the FSPs, presented Pope Francis with the Italian Province’s newly-published book, St. Brochero, the “Gaucho Priest,” by Lili Rena, he was delighted because Fr. Brochero is a marvelous example of an ideal dear to the heart of the Pope. In fact, he was the model of a good pastor, who took on the “odor” of his sheep, knew every corner of his parish, and brought Jesus to every family and person, including those far from the Church, tirelessly going forth in search of them to lead them back home.
