Ruth Dureghello is the first woman in the 22-century history of Rome to guide the Jewish community of this city–the oldest Jewish community in Europe. An ex-Councilor for Education and a member of the aforementioned community, she was a close collaborator of Riccardo Pacifici, who is concluding his term as President of the group.

“Congratulations to Ruth Dureghello, the new President of the Jewish community of Rome,” said Ignazio Marino, the city’s mayor. “I am very pleased with the outcome of the election and I want you to know that I and all the citizens of Rome feel very close to you. You are the first woman to hold such an important office in the city’s Jewish community, which is a fundamental part of its history. My very best wishes to you and your whole community for this new stage of your journey.”
