Pope Francis speaks about artificial intelligence and peace in his message for the fifty-seventh World Day of Peace, which will be celebrated on 1 January 2024. He says: “Intelligence is an expression of the dignity given to us by the Creator, who made us in his image and likeness (cf. Gen. 1:26) and enables us to respond to his love through freedom and knowledge, but advances in new technologies, especially in the digital sphere, can have serious consequences in terms of social justice and harmony among peoples. Current attention to forms of artificial intelligence must be accompanied by appropriate responsibility for their evolution, because technological developments that do not lead to an improvement in the quality of life of all humanity, but on the contrary exacerbate inequality and conflict, can never be considered true progress.”
