We must rediscover fraternity in families, in the economy and in relations among peoples because without fraternity it is impossible to build a just society and a solid and lasting peace.

This is what Pope Francis underscores in his first message for World Peace Day. In the message, entitled Fraternity, the Foundation and Pathway to Peace, the Pope denounces corruption and organized crime and makes a heartfelt appeal to those who sow violence and death, begging them to lay down their weapons.

The message, which was published on 8 December, Feast of the Immaculate Conception, concludes with an appeal to Mary, asking her to “help us to understand and live every day the fraternity that springs up from the heart of her Son, so as to bring peace to each person on this our beloved earth.”
