The Republic of South Sudan, the world’s newest recognized country, is going through a time of great political and economic instability due to fighting among the various ethnic groups that make up its government.

“It is a new humanitarian emergency,” Pope Francis said in his recent meeting with the country’s diplomatic representatives to the Holy See. In spite of the drumbeat of war, the Archdiocese of Juba, the capital of South Sudan, courageously organized a meeting to pray and reflect on the important themes of peace, justice and Christian hope.

The Daughters of St. Paul of Juba took active part in this ecclesial event, sharing the sufferings and fears, the hopes and the prayers of the people of the country.
