On behalf of the President of the Republic of Italy, Ambassador Mauro Massoni recently conferred on Sr. Teresa Marcazzan, director of Paulines Publications Africa, the title Knight of the Order of the Star of Italy. This accolade, which ranks as the second-highest honor conferred on civilians by the Italian State, is bestowed on those whom the Republic feels merit special recognition as a result of their promotion of friendly relations and cooperation between Italy and other countries, as well as their promotion of ties with Italy.
In his speech for the occasion, the Ambassador said that one of the reasons for conferring this title on Sr. Teresa was the quantity and quality of the publications of Paulines Publications Africa and its contribution to culture, especially through the production of the African Bible in various languages.
Sr. Teresa writes: “I thank the Lord, the Congregation and my community for this recognition, which all the Daughters of St. Paul in Kenya and throughout Africa merit. I would have been able to do very little alone, but with the grace of my vocation and the collaboration of my whole community, as well as that of all the sisters of the Delegation, we have taken big steps for the good of the Church and the African people. I would also like to thank the Italians who have helped us develop our important mission in Africa by means of their contributions to the assistance project ‘8 for a thousand’, sponsored by the Italian Episcopal Conference.”
