Fr. Jacob Kani, a Capuchin priest who is editor-in chief of the Indian Currents weekly in the state of Madhya Pradesh, received the Honesty Award in Journalism for 2013 by the Honesty Foundation of Goa.

The purpose of the award is to recognize and award acts of honesty in all walks of life so as to disseminate this fundamental value among the younger generations.

The award for honest journalism, which was introduced in 2013, was conferred on Fr. Kani in recognition of his honest, fearless and courageous stand as a journalist. In fact, over the years he has used his weekly to wage a relentless battle against corruption, religious fundamentalism and growing communalism in the country. According to the press release, “Whenever the country faced the onslaught of religious fundamentalism and communal tensions, Indian Currents came out courageously and strongly against such forces and ideologies, while adhering to the values of truth, justice and peace.”
