Humanitarian Corridors

Two “humanitarian corridors” have been set up for in the following months with air flights, to save 2000 thousand migrants from Lebanon and Morocco, allowing them to flee the war without risking death at sea.  This historic initiative became a reality in Europe for the first time.  Pope John XXIII Association and the St. Egidio Community announced this during the convention, “The Courage to be Human”, that took place in Rimini on October 30-31.

We do not have to go in search of new migrants, but to avoid massacres that have been practically announced, by bringing the refugees in safely who otherwise would try to find other ways of entering Europe.

This initiative is also a good example of networking among Christian organizations and ecumenical solidarity.  In fact, the following has adhered to this program: FOCSIV – Federation of 72 Christian Associations of International Volunteers, among which is also VIDES, the International Association of Youth Volunteers of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians – and the Waldensian Church, which contributes financially.
