The 56th Giffoni Film Festival welcomed more than 5,000 young jurors from over 40 countries and 500 Italian cities and towns. They took part in the festival’s various sections. The program took shape day by day until it reached its final form, featuring premieres, special events, films in competition, and appearances by Italian and international guests.
At such a difficult time for the world and for Italy, marked by uncertainty and a challenging economic situation, the Giffoni festival, despite facing many difficulties of its own, seeks to remain a source of possibility. Today more than ever, the festival feels the weight of this responsibility.
For 56 years, the Giffoni film festival has been a point of reference for families and young people, accompanying them on a journey of education, learning, encounter, sharing, presence, and growth.
It is in the imagination that the impossible begins to give way to the possible. This is where what the world has not yet seen begins to take shape, where ideas emerge that no one yet knows how to bring to life.
This concept inspired the image for the 56th edition of the Giffoni Film Festival, scheduled for July 17–25. Artistic director Luca Apolito chose Icarus, a timeless symbol that has endured through the centuries and still challenges us today, to represent this year’s theme: “Impossible Things.” It is an invitation to imagine, to open new horizons, and to have the courage to take flight.
