In Giffoni Valle Piana, in the heart of Italy’s Campania Region (Salerno), the 55th edition of the Giffoni Film Festival is underway and will run until July 26. This year’s theme, “Becoming Human,” draws inspiration from the words of Pope Leo XIV. Over 5,000 young jurors from more than thirty countries are taking part in the festival, enjoying a unique experience of culture, friendship, and dialogue.

The so-called “Giffoners,” ranging in age from 3 and up, are judging the 99 films in competition. These works explore timely and thought-provoking themes such as the delicate relationship between parents and children, respect for the environment, the acceptance of diversity as a path to overcoming prejudice, and the often-challenging transition to adulthood.

But the festival is much more than just a film competition. It also offers workshops, seminars with authors and filmmakers, musical and sports activities, and meaningful opportunities for sharing with peers and families.

“The selected films,” explained founder Claudio Gubitosi, “help young people reflect, dream of a better future, and live more consciously in the present. Youth are longing for a society that listens to them and loves them.”

The Giffoni festival continues to affirm its role as an international platform that not only showcases films but also empowers young people to become protagonists of change.
