The 2023 edition of the teamwork initiative to replenish school libraries was held from 4-12 November 2023. Nearly 2.5 million new books were donated to school libraries in the first seven editions of #ioleggoperché (“I read because…”). This major project to promote reading throughout Italy–the largest national event of its kind–was carried out thanks to the synergy and collaboration of the Ministry of Culture through the Center for Books and Reading, and the Ministry of Education and Merit.
The power and success of #ioleggoperché are due not only to its noble goal but also to its ability to connect schools, publishers, readers and bookstores, the latter including almost all of the Pauline Book Centers scattered throughout the country, which have participated in the initiative from the very beginning.
