Forty bishops and social communications experts from the Bishops’ Conferences of Europe met in Athens, Greece, at the invitation of Msgr. Sebastianos Rossolatos, Archbishop of the diocese, and Msgr. Salachas Dimitrios, Apostolic Exarch for Catholics of Byzantine Rite, to reflect on the theme: Communication as a Meeting Between Authenticity and Concreteness.

From the talks and exchange of ideas in the Assembly Hall, “it became clear that the Internet has led to an anthropological change that is reflected in the social and spiritual life of its users and calls the Church to approach the Net in a new way,” says a CCEE statement.

The press release then goes on to observe: “Faced with the risk–especially to the young, but not limited to them–of living the digital life in an all-encompassing, absorbing and solitary way, the Church must make a stronger commitment to demonstrating that the digital life can be an opportunity for forging authentic and concrete relationships.”
