“Louis, a terminally-ill writer, returns home after a 12-year absence to announce his impending death to his family in the hope of inspiring love and hope among his relatives. What can’t be said in words is clearly communicated by facial expressions in Xavier Dolan’s film. In what is not said, in the screams and looks, we find the story of a family in which loved is not expressed and in which people scream so as to avoid revealing what is essential.”

With these words, the 2016 Cannes Film Festival awarded its Ecumenical Jury Prize to It’s Only the End of the Word, a film by Canadian Xavier Dolan. The film also won the Grand Prix prize at the same Festival.
