The visit of Pope Francis to the beautiful island of Sardinia on 22 September 2013 will long remain in the hearts of many people. During that day, filled with unforgettable moments of celebration and hope. Pope Francis focused on three important issues: the Gospel of hope, the person and a dignified work for every person.

All ten of the dioceses of Sardinia participated in the event, which was preceded by a week of intense spiritual, liturgical and cultural preparation. The FSPs of Cagliari contributed to this preparation by means of several special initiatives:

• the presentation of the latest book by Andrea Tornielli (a Catholic journalist and writer), entitled: Jorge Mario Bergoglio. Francesco. Insieme: The Life, Ideas and Words of a Pope who will change the Church;
• 3 days of biblical-vocational animations in Settimo San Pietro Parish;
• collaboration with pastoral work for young people.

At the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Bonaria, a favorite Marian shrine of Pope Francis, the youth of Sardinia sang Getta le tue reti sulla mia Parola (Throw out your nets in obedience to my word), dedicating the hymn to the Pope and to every person who feels the invitation of Jesus to follow him to the ends of earth.
