May 2011 offered a star-studded program of events to the citizens of Paraguay, who are commemorating their country’s 200th anniversary of independence this year.

The main bicentennial celebrations were held in the most strategic places in the capital. Book-oriented events were included in the program. One of these, a Bicentennial Book Fair in which the Daughters of St. Paul enthusiastically participated, was held in the city’s old train station, with book stands set up among the train cars and engines. The FSP stand offered the Word of God to all passers-by and also offered a small workshop for children entitled, Working with St. Paul, by means of which both the children and their parents could get to know the Apostle through games and other activities.

Another major bicentennial event, characterized by color, music and great creativity, was the second Expocatolica hosted by the diocese as a part of its “Mission to the Citizens” initiative-the Church’s contribution to the country’s anniversary celebrations.
