Korea’s Fifth Catholic Film Festival was held from 25-28 October 2018 in the CGV Myeongdong Cinema Library in Seoul. The issues addressed were those of respect and justice. Out of the 690 short films in competition, 13 were selected. First prize went to the film Tears, directed by Oh Seong, while Spring in Summer, directed by Hwang Da-seul, received the award for excellence.
Reflecting on contemporary society, increasingly characterized by injustice, diversity and hatred, the Catholic Filmmakers Association, founded in Korea in 2013, chose the themes of respect and fairness viewed through the particular channels of age, race, language and religious systems. This year’s Festival poster, illustrated with various colors and the drawings of hands, feet and leaves, expresses justice as a universal reality.
As members of the jury, Nicolaus Jo Yong-jun, ssp, and Teresa Son, fsp, were actively involved in this event.
