223 million children around the world are the victims of violence. This is the sad news published by UNICEF, which wants to sound a global alarm through a campaign entitled, End Violence Against Children.

The purpose of the campaign is to sensitize the public to the fact that every year hundreds of millions of children are victimized through different forms of exploitation and many millions more through human trafficking. UNICEF hopes its campaign will prompt individuals and groups to pool ideas so as to come up with new ways to end this serious and shameful situation. It has set up a web site on the social media network to explain how parents and communities can work in partnernship with UNICEF to achieve this goal by keeping informed and taking action on the local, national and international levels.

Protecting children is the heart of UNICEF. Furthermore, the UN Charter on the Rights of Children and Adolescents clearly states that every child, no matter where he or she lives, has the right to be protected from every type of violence.
