A virtual world tour caravan through music in just over two hours: this is the initiative promoted by EBU (European Broadcasting Union) on the occasion of the World Radio Day. Convened by UNESCO, the Day is celebrated on February 13. The theme for 2016 is: The Radio in times of emergency and disaster.
“Amidst the ruins and in the face of an emergency situation the radio is often the first means of survival. Its proximity, simplicity and low cost – emphasizes Irina Bukova, Director-General of UNESCO, in a message for the occasion – make the radio “a medium that promotes community life, providing a way to strengthen social ties enabling, for example, the separated families to find each other, make contact and regain hope.”
