Pope Francis has sent out a new tweet from his Pontifex account. It reads:
“Reading the Gospel every day can help us conquer our self-centeredness and follow Jesus Master decisively.” The Pope continually urges everyone to read the Gospel: “Carry it with you in your pocket, in your purse,” he has said on many occasions. “Read it every day. It will do you good!” He has also repeatedly said: “When you are sad, pick up the Word of God and read it. It will give you consolation and joy.”

Pope Francis recommends that we read the Word so as to find Jesus. One who truly listens to the Word, he adds, will meet him and this encounter will transform the person’s heart and change his/her life. But it is necessary to “listen to the Word with a humble heart,” he reminds us, “because Jesus came among us in humility and poverty.”
