Aware of their divisions and of the need to do much more to foster the unity of the Body of Christ, the Churches of Jerusalem are asking all Christians to rediscover the values that unified the first Christian community of Jerusalem, namely: an assiduous following of the teachings of the Apostles, fraternal communion, the breaking of the bread, and prayer (Acts 2:42).
To strengthen communion among Christians living in the Middle East today is a powerful stimulus for renewed commitment to working for genuine ecumenism grounded in the experience of the early Church.
