The Statute of the Secretariat for Communication was published on 22 September 2016. Its preamble says that the new Vatican dicastery was set up by the Holy Father to respond “to the current communications context, which is characterized by the presence and development of the digital media, with their factors of convergence and interactivity.” The establishment of this new Secretariat requires the other Vatican organisms and offices connected to the Holy See to be reorganized so as to foster integration and unitary management. The Statute will be used on an experimental basis for three years.
