On September 1, forty teachers from Holy Name School, located near Pauline Books & Media in Jamaica Plain, began the new school year with a Mass celebrated in our chapel.
The pastor, Father Tom, the principal, and the director of campus ministry worked with Sr. Margaret Charles Kerry of the Daughters of St. Paul to organize the day. The welcome gathering took place in Cushing Hall below the chapel. The director of campus ministry provided breakfast, while a young woman discerning with us, who also attended the gathering, helped set it up.
As requested, Sr. Margaret prepared the program on the theme, “The Identity of a Catholic School,” leading four small-group discussion sessions. At the end, the teachers went to the chapel for half an hour of adoration. Sr. Margaret introduced this time with a meditation on John 15, “Remain in Me.”
The day had a twofold purpose: to rediscover and deepen the identity of the Catholic school and, at the same time, to renew the teachers’ relationship with Christ.
