In the awareness that today we are all called to act with wisdom and commitment with regard to the progressive impoverishment and destruction of the environment, on 11 May the Daughters of St. Paul of Johannesburg held an encounter entitled, Creation: By Chance or By Need?
Guest speaker Fr. Michael van Heerden, President of the Catholic University of Johannesburg, developed the subject by taking as his starting point the concept that nothing happens by chance in creation and that God offers us infinite possibilities to respect and improve it. After this premise, he presented creation as God’s first revelation of himself, followed by his self-revelation in the story of salvation and tradition.
Fr. Van Heerden’s competence and the broad vision with which he treated the subject enabled the audience to participate enthusiastically in the lively question-and-answer session that followed.
