The fourth edition of SabirFest was held in Catania, Messina and Reggio Calabria, southern Italy, from 5-8 October 2017. The event, which focuses attention on the Mediterranean Sea, the countries surrounding it and their inhabitants, is a space for cultural growth and participation that is decisive in prefiguring new forms of Mediterranean citizenship in the face of old and new injustices by eliminating old and new exclusions.

The program of the 4-day event included musical and theatrical performances geared to every age group of the public, as well as conferences, workshops and times of dialogue and reflection. Participating in the initiative were journalists, professionals and intellectuals of various extractions, who helped to draw up the final draft of a “Manifesto for Mediterranean Citizenship.” Everything served to help the people of the Mediterranean question themselves about violated rights and at the same time pay tribute to prophetic voices silenced by many different types of violence and abuse of power.
