Secular and Christian associations condemn the murder of Sr. Valsa John, 52, a member of the Sisters of Charity of Jesus and Mary, who was killed by a group of 40 men on the night of November 15.

A native of Kerala, Sr. Valsa had dedicated her life to the Santal tribal region Dhumka (State of Jharkhand), fighting for the villagers’ rights and against the expropriation of their land by a powerful coal lobby. The martyrdom of Sr. Valsa is a challenge for the Church in India.
