The Daughters of St. Paul have opened a new apostolic center in Juazeiro do Norte, the third most visited pilgrimage spot in Brazil.

The city of Juazeiro was born and developed under the auspices of Fr. Cicero Romão Batista, an extraordinary apostle of northern Brazil, who died in 1934. The place is still strongly tied to him through the faith of the people, who breathe the air of their “godfather,” as he is commonly called.

His picture is everywhere: in homes, shopping centers, along the streets and from a high hill, where a 10-meter (33 ft.) statue of Fr. Cicero stands.

The Christian life of the inhabitants of Juazeiro do Norte and of the pilgrims is nourished by simple devotion. The Daughters of St. Paul want to collaborate in the formation of pastoral workers, catechists, families and all the city’s visitors by helping them come to a more profound knowledge of the Faith, Sacred Scripture and Christian doctrine.

Our new apostolic center in Juazeiro will thus be a center of light and a place of encounter and dialogue, in keeping with the desire of Blessed James Alberione, founder of the Pauline Family. In addition, our collaborators will promote an FSP center that goes forth to neighboring cities to visit parishes, schools, universities, other academic institutes and libraries. It will organize meetings and courses, and participate in fairs and exhibits. All this so that Jesus Master, Way, Truth and Life, will be better known and loved, and the people will grow in a faith that gives meaning and reason to their lives.
